The Island Players provides quality, amateur theatrical entertainment,
conducts workshops on theater operations, and supports a continuing education function for the public in performing arts.
The History of The Island Players

For 70 years, The Island Players has been a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing artistic experiences for the community of St. Simons Island and its neighboring cities through the presentation of live stage productions.
To accomplish these goals, we present a number of mainstage performances, plus a Christmas production, and a summer youth workshop each year which culminates in a stage performance.
The Island Players has a long history on St Simons Island.
“Call Me Madam” The Island Players First Musical 1965-1966
Established in 1956, The Island Players produced its first show The Moon is Blue and presented it at the King and Prince Hotel. A few years later in 1959, we moved our productions from the hotel to the Airport Playhouse at Malcolm McKinnon Airport.
In 1962 TIP moved to its present location at The Casino Theatre and began selling season memberships in the same year. Our first musical Call Me Madam was later produced in 1966.
In 1973 the stage was expanded and renovations were made to transform the projection booth into a lighting and sound booth to make it a suitable place to hold live theatre shows.
